Who is CBI?

Adrian Mattox, a Northeast Mississippi native, followed his dream. The result: Component Builders.

Back in the early 1970s, Adrian worked part-time in construction in Columbus, Ga. That’s where he learned about the truss industry. He applied himself, learning all he could about truss manufacturing and searching for a way to fulfill his dream as he moved back to Mississippi in the mid-1970s.

Call this a dream deferred. Yet, Adrian’s patience and hard work paid off. With a financial boost from some friends and a local bank, he opened his shop. By May 1986, Adrian’s company, CBI, produced its first set of trusses.

CBI grew - sometimes in leaps and bounds and at other times at a snail’s pace.

In 1994, Adrian’s son, Richard (Rich), came on full-time, moving from his part-time position he’d held since high school and throughout college. During the next decade, the father and son added wall panel and floor truss production. The dream blossomed.

Adrian began to step back during the late 2000s and into 2010s, handing over more responsibility to Rich.

CBI still had its challenges. 

In February 2021, as the world continued to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic, an ice storm resulted in the collapse of two of the industry’s production buildings, totally shutting down the operation.

Instead of giving up and giving into the nightmare, Rich and his crew relocated and repaired machinery that survived the devastation, moving it into a building that survived the weather. CBI resumed roof production in May of that year, thanks to the assistance of friends and family and most importantly, God’s guiding and protecting hand.

Through His grace, CBI has upgraded, streamlined, and added new product lines. The company continues to develop plans to better meet the demands of the construction industry in CBI’s service area.
